The Most Common NFL Teaser Betting Mistakes

After watching (and making) plenty of teaser bets over the years, I keep seeing the same handful of mistakes trip people up. None of them require insider knowledge to avoid — just a little discipline.

Mistake #1: Treating every game as teaser-worthy. Not every matchup benefits equally from an extra 6 points. Adding points to a game that was never close to begin with doesn't create value — it just moves a number. The whole point of a teaser is finding situations where those 6 points actually change the outcome.

Mistake #2: Chasing losses by adding more teams. After a rough week, it's tempting to combine more legs into your next teaser hoping for a bigger payout to make up ground. But more legs means a lower chance of hitting — exactly the wrong move when you're trying to recover.

Mistake #3: Ignoring bankroll management entirely. I've written before about proportional betting — sizing your wagers based on your current balance rather than a fixed dollar amount. Bettors who skip this step are the ones who get wiped out by an ordinary losing streak instead of surviving it.

Mistake #4: Not tracking results. If you don't know your actual win rate on teased bets, you can't tell whether you're ahead of the break-even line or behind it. Most bettors have no idea what percentage they need to hit just to break even — and that number is higher than most people assume.

None of this requires a secret formula. It just requires treating teaser betting like a discipline instead of a hunch. That's the whole premise behind Fred's Teaser Edge strategy.
